38% of voters participate in recent polls

Thirty-eight percent of the voting population, or 3460 out of 9368 voters participated in this year’s University Student Government (USG) General Elections held last February 26.

Ematong “We are affected by the increase but we have not experienced any change.” Such was the statement of an Education student during the Tuition Dialogue for a five to six percent tuition hike next academic year. The Lasallian Education student questioned the large estimated increase for the library fee, adding she was not able to access some of the books in the library and that some library books are not up-to-date.

This was how the late President Corazon ‘Cory’ Cojuangco-Aquino was described by different sectors in the Negros during the multi-sectoral mass and special tribute dedicated to her at the University Coliseum last August 4. Different sectors inside and outside La Salle gathered for Cory in a tribute officiated by University Chaplain Fr. Ronald Quijano. Quijano held a healing mass for Cory last July 31 but the nation eventually discovered that the icon of democracy passed away at 3:18 in the morning the next day. “We have once again learned our history. “People Power is still alive in Negros.” Such was the observation of Bayan Muna Representative Teodoro Casiño as about 12,000 Negrenses including the Lasallian community, alliances and groups from various sectors braved the rains and took to the streets last July 27 to oppose the house resolution amending the present Constitution through Constituent Assembly (Con-Ass).

GABI NG LAHI: A Sail Back to History Gabi ng Lahi, dubbed as “Lasalyano Musikal: Ang Pagbabalik Tanaw”, sailed Lasallians back to our country’s roots as the five colleges showcased musicals retelling events that made up the Philippine history. The colleges, during the celebration held at the Coliseum last August 14, dug from the archives and chronologically unveiled the significant events that took place on particular periods of our history.
